Indigenous Focused Non-Instructional Day

Location: Vernon Secondary School, 2100 15 St, Vernon, BC V1T 9X7

 

8:15 Doors open at VSS Gymnasium

8:30 Traditional Welcome and Okanagan Song

8:45-9:00 Opening Words: Superintendent Dr. Christine Perkins Introduction: Director of Indigenous Education Charity Sakakibara

9:00-10:30 Keynote speaker: Anne Tenning on "Paddling Together: Unpacking the 'Truth' in Truth and Reconciliation through Story"

10:30-10:45 Break

10:45- 11:15 Indigenous Student Panel on "Sharing the Indigenous Student Experiences in SD22"

11:15-11:30  Closing Words

 

11:30-12:30 School-Based staff return to School Sites

School-based staff and those who regularly work at school-sites will return to schools for lunch and afternoon facilitated      session. Site supervisors will facilitate staff discussion and reflections about the morning sessions from 12:20-2:30.

12:30–2:30 Casual CUPE staff and TTOCs to VSS Theatre

Casual/on call staff may attend the facilitated afternoon session at VSS Theatre.  Indigenous Education Lead Teachers will facilitate staff discussion and reflections about the morning sessions from 12:30-2:30. 

11:30-12:30 School-Board Office staff return to SBO

School Board Office staff and district-based staff who are unable to join a school will return to the School Board Office for lunch and afternoon facilitated session in Foxes/Geese/Grizzly Bear rooms. District senior education staff will facilitate staff discussion and reflections about the morning session from 12:30-2:30.
